In arbitration proceedings, document management is the collation and presentation of factual evidence and is largely a party driven process, with the arbitral tribunal usually having limited involvement.
During our final CADRIn Connect Webinar of 2020, delivered virtually on 25 November, we invited a panel of International arbitration experts to share their extensive experience on the topic, asking them to consider the likely issues which may arise when faced with a specific case scenario and to share their thoughts from the perspectives of different players within an arbitration: the tribunal, arbitral institutions, party counsel and tribunal secretaries.

The panel:
1. Katherine Simpson
Dr. Katherine Simpson, FCIArb, is an international arbitrator based in the US (Simpson Dispute Resolution) and London (33 Bedford Row Chambers). She has served as sole arbitrator in multi-party, international disputes and has conducted virtual hearings. Over the past 10 years, Katherine has been involved in over 30 international commercial and investment arbitrations chaired by Prof. Karl-Heinz Boeckstiegel and William W. Park, among others. These cases had amounts in controversy of US$ 5 million - US$ 2.5 billion, and have become the most influential cases of the past decade and include Bear Creek v. Peru (ICSID 14/21) (elaborating the need for a “social license” to conduct business), and UP v. Hungary (ICSID 13/35) (Global Arbitration Review’s “Most Important Award” of 2019, regarding the AchmeaDecision’s impact on ICSID jurisdiction). She frequently writes and lectures on topics related to investor-state arbitration.
2. Francois Lassalle
As Chief Executive Officer of the BVI International Arbitration Centre (BVI-IAC), Mr. Francois Lassalle is responsible for the overall growth, management and operations of the institution. He started his London career in Banking and since he always likes to explore pastures new, joined a financial start-up which was then acquired by Standard and Poors. During this time, he played a key part in the development of research departments and operations both in London, India and the Philippines before moving on to the legal sector. Francois worked for Linklaters where he advised the Executive Committee and led teams, strategies, global projects and consulting assignments both broad in scope and with high business impact before taking on a Global Business Management role. Prior to moving to the BVI, he worked for Dentons in London, the world’s largest law firm, where he advised senior management on the UK strategy and served as the Divisional Business Manager for two divisions. Francois holds a Master’s Degree in Management from French Business School EM Strasbourg with concentrations in Finance and Banking; and a BSc Degree from UMIST, in Management.
3. Hafez R Virjee
Mr. Hafez R Virjee is the President and a co-Founder of Delos Dispute Resolution. Mr. Virjee also serves as an independent arbitrator. He previously acted mainly as counsel, and his clients spanned the range of private equity firms, tech start-ups, industrial concerns, listed companies, State entities and treaty organisations, in disputes across a wide range of sectors and relationships, including shareholder agreements, joint-ventures, agency, M&A, telecommunications, tech, energy, pharmaceutical, construction and defence. Hafez is a solicitor of England & Wales and also qualified in France. He co-edits the Delos Guide to Arbitration Places (GAP) and regularly writes and speaks on international arbitration and legal risk management. He is listed among the Future Leaders of Arbitration by Who's Who Legal and was ranked amongst the most highly regarded in Europe for 2020.
4. Camille Ramos-Klee
Ms. Camille Ramos-Klee is an independent tribunal secretary and a New York qualified attorney who focuses her practice on international commercial and investor-state arbitration. She has worked closely with Professor William W. “Rusty” Park and has served as his tribunal secretary in multiple arbitrations. Previously, Camille worked as a legal fellow at New York University’s Office of the General Counsel. She is a native English speaker and a fluent heritage speaker of Spanish. She holds a JD from Boston University School of Law and a BA from Amherst College. She is active in several professional associations related to arbitration, a member of the Arbitration Committee and an affiliate member of the Inter-American Affairs Committee of the New York City Bar Association and is an Ambassador for Arbitrator Intelligence. She has also participated in mentorship programs offered by the Young Institute of Transnational Arbitration and el Club Español de Arbitraje. In addition to her work in the arbitration community, Camille serves on the Líderes Young Professionals Board for LatinoJustice PRLDF.
